Hazyview or Skukuza: which makes more sense?

The simple version

If you want to stay inside Kruger, choose Skukuza. If you want to visit Kruger but still have a luxury hotel experience, choose Hazyview.

That is probably the simplest way to look at it.

What Skukuza does very well

Skukuza is inside Kruger. That is its biggest advantage. You wake up in the park and your day starts there.

If your whole trip is built around game viewing, that is difficult to argue with. For many people, staying inside the park is part of the experience they came for.

What Hazyview does differently

Hazyview gives you Kruger without asking you to stay in Kruger. From The Zarafa, Phabeni Gate is around twenty minutes away. That is not a long journey.

And once you are through the gate, you are having exactly the same Kruger experience as everyone else. The difference is what happens when you leave again.

Coming back to The Zarafa

You come back to your own pool. A spacious villa. A proper bathroom. Breakfast and a five-course dinner. A very small lodge where service is personal because there simply are not many guests.

For people who care as much about the hotel as the safari, this is a fairly important difference.

Kruger accommodation and luxury accommodation are not the same thing

Accommodation inside the national park is largely about location. That is what you are buying.

At The Zarafa, the accommodation itself has to be part of the reason you came. The room, pool, food, gardens and service all matter.

That makes it a better fit for guests who want safari without giving up the standards they expect from the rest of their holiday.

And then there is dinner

After a long safari day, the idea of driving out again to find dinner becomes less attractive. At The Zarafa, you do not have to.

The menu changes each evening and dinner is five courses. You can come back, shower, have a drink and stay exactly where you are.

Hazyview also gives you the Panorama Route

This is where the difference becomes even clearer on a longer stay. Kruger one day. Panorama Route the next. Pool the next afternoon. Another safari if you feel like it.

Hazyview gives you a little more room to change your mind.

Is Skukuza ever the better choice?

Absolutely. If you want to be inside Kruger and do as much game viewing as possible, stay there. If you are less interested in the accommodation and more interested in the park, it makes perfect sense.

But if you want the whole trip to feel luxurious, not just the safari part of it, we think Hazyview has a lot going for it.

What about splitting the stay?

That is probably the nicest answer if you have enough time. Stay inside Kruger for a night or two, then come to The Zarafa.

You get both experiences and do not have to pretend one is better at everything.
